Happy Hiney Doc Returns To Fort Lauderdale

Dr. Elie Schochet, best known for his Happy Hiney series at the Pride Center, has moved his practice back to Fort Lauderdale.

Schochet was forced to leave the area when he left Holy Cross hospital and decided to open a private practice.

“So, I really liked the hospital. I think it’s a wonderful hospital for the community, but the way they were running my office, they just weren’t letting me sort of build the kind of center I wanted to build,” he said. “So I quit.”

He opened up an office in Aventura until he was able to move his new practice back to the Fort Lauderdale area.

“When I opened there I knew the plan was always to get back here right away,” he said.

Most of his surgeries will now take place at Holy Cross.

Questions and Answers about Human Papilloma Virus

WHAT IS HPV?

HPV is a very common virus which can cause a broad spectrum of illness from asymptomatic skin and mucous membranes, to anal or cervical dysplasia, and at worst, to full blown anal or cervical cancer.

There are dozens of identified strains of HPV, some of which are commonly associated with warts (Types 6 and 11), however many people can harbor the virus without ever having a single wart. Some of the strains (Types 16 and 18) can reside in the anus and cervix and cause varying degrees of inflammation broadly characterized as dysplasia. Severe or highgrade dysplasia (HSIL) is strongly associated with the development of anal and cervical cancer, especially in men and women living with HIV/AIDS.

Questions and Answers about Anal Pap Smears

The Pap smear, developed by Greek doctor Georgios Papanikolaou almost 70 years ago is a quick painless test in which cells of the female cervix are examined for abnormalities. Prior to routine pap smear testing in women, cervical cancer was the number one cancer killer in women worldwide. Over the last decade, physicians have come to recognize that the same test may be used for the early detection of anal cancer, an illness which is on the rise worldwide, especially in the gay and lesbian community. The disease is easily treatable when found early and is preventable. This is intended to dispel some myths about anal pap smears and help you decide if pap smear testing is right for you.

You Want To Stick That Where? A Guide to the Anal Pap Smear Before, During, And After…

Before

What is the Pap smear?

Your healthcare provider has recommended that you get an anal Pap smear. This simple, painless, inexpensive test is a way to screen for abnormal pre-cancerous cells that may line your anal canal. Physicians have long realized that infection with Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) is an important precursor to the development of cervical cancer and more recently that the same mechanisms are likely responsible in the development of anal cancer as well. The HPV infects the lining of the cervix and anus (and also less commonly the urethra and throat) and can cause mutations which, over time, can transform normal cell lining into cancer.

Happy Hiney: Unspoken and Untreated — Stop Living With Diarrhea

Even the word sounds dirty. The jump from di- to ghon- is short when our lips pronounce the words. Someone once said of pornography, “I can’t define it but I know it when I see it.”

Likewise the word diarrhea brings up all sorts of horrible images. Physicians don’t even feel comfortable talking about it, let alone the people that suffer with it.

Happy Hiney: Tips On Bottoming From A Butt Doc

One of the most common questions I get in the office are about tips for better bottoming.

How to make it tighter, looser, drier, wetter, lighter, darker. How to make it feel like it’s 20 again! How to make it not feel like it’s 20 again.

And of course the dreaded, “If I can’t take him in, he’s going to leave me.”

I’ve put together some rules and thoughts to make time in the bedroom, or any room, more enjoyable.

Happy Hiney: Keep Your Hiney Healthy With Fiber

Television and the Internet bombard us with the next best superfoods or supplement often claiming benefits that are unproven or untested. Products like acai berries, probiotics, lycopene, and green coffee come to mind as the most recent darlings of the supplement craze.

Fiber, while not technically a supplement, should be a major part of any well balanced diet and its benefits in the prevention of gastrointestinal complaints (constipation, hemorrhoids, diarrhea and diverticulitis), heart disease and diabetes are well studied and accepted. Unfortunately, while fiber is found in most fruits, vegetables, beans and grains, even those eating a healthy well balanced diet are often still fiber deficient.
